Network issues – NHS Ayrshire & Arran

Important information

On the morning of Monday 20 May 2024, NHS Ayrshire & Arran experienced disruption to its digital network, affecting the majority of our digital systems, including our digital telephone system.

The disruption was caused by an electrical wiring fault, causing loss of power to the computer room at University Hospital Crosshouse. Resilience and business continuity arrangements were enacted, including the use of the analogue telephone system.

While our engineers detected and rectified the issue quickly, the digital network required a few hours to reboot, with the majority of clinical systems back up and running by 1.30pm.

Unfortunately, this meant that we had to cancel some outpatient appointments on Monday 20 May 2024. Where possible, we contacted patients to advise of the cancellation. However, we do appreciate some patients will have traveled to the hospital. We have accommodated these patients where possible. We would like to apologize for any inconvenience caused. We will be in touch with all affected patients to rearrange any necessary appointments. We would like to thank members of the public for their understanding and patience, and for our staff who were working under challenging circumstances.
