Network issues – NHS Ayrshire & Arran

On the morning of Monday 20 May 2024, NHS Ayrshire & Arran experienced disruption to its digital network, affecting the majority of our digital systems, including our digital telephone system. The disruption was caused by an electrical wiring fault, causing loss of power to the computer room at University Hospital Crosshouse. Resilience and business continuity arrangements were enacted, including the use of the analogue telephone system. While our engineers detected and rectified the issue quickly, the digital network required a few hours to reboot, with the majority of clinical systems back up and running by 1.30pm. The network will support the development, evaluation and adoption of innovative health and care technology The National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) has awarded an NIHR HealthTech Research Center (HRC) Network £5m to provide national coordination and leadership for NIHR HRCs to advance health innovations.
